Naming Chicks

Everyone in the household named one of ours... except me, that is!
Initially we brought home 6 chicks, then realized hubs had selected one straight run... since we can't keep roosters, if we have a boy, he'll have to be re-homed... so the child who named that one got to go back and pick out chick number 7 and name her.

We ended up with (drumroll please)...

Zeus (appeared to be the leader, so she got a strong name), Caprica (Hubs current favorite show now that Battlestar is over), Oil (Picked by the 5yo...black), Orange Star (starburst face/orange beak), Sugar (creamy white), Buttercup (strawberry/tan), and Caramel (brownish/striped).

Have fun... pick names that fit each chicken, whether by looks or personality!

names: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 etc... I don't name my birds unless they earn them, by winning shows, or being unique in some way. My original pair was named dimmu and borgir, after a scandinavian death metal band. Then i have princess who took champion at a show. The rest of my chickens don't have names, its easier to trade them around that way. good luck with remembering 11 names.

Their names just come to them...Pecker, Bob, Runt, Pirannah (8 of them are going to thier new home next week & thier 4 yo named his Speedy). Once I am down to my permanent 12 then they will all get their names. Untill now, the nameless ones are all called chicky.

The breed of chicken I'm starting this year orgininated in the Mediterranean, so I thought I'd give my favorites names from the Mediterranean.

I thought all of these were awesome names, they're names of wind, the only wind name I ever knew of was zephyer- or however it's spelled. But those are all very neat.
Good luck have fun!
*edited to add*
My 9 year old brother has a RIR that he calls Wormy from spongebob, my sister has a BR that she calls Pie , I think it's short for piebald, but all I get out of it is chicken pie

then there's Toeless, because she lost a toenail. When you let a 9 and 13 year old name chickens you get great stories!

: (Big) Bertha(the largest), Bella (looks like Bertha's sis), Olympia,(daughter named named the smallest, black silkie after a capitol), Goldie (my son- for the light gold one!), Little Nell (daughter's friend -although I'm thinking she looks more like a Mrs. Nesbit - a silkie with a topknot), the remaining 4 to be named (these are 3 day old chicks :)
Good luck, and have fun with it!

I think of famous people they remind me of or a word that can describe them, like my polish chicken, Hope, which had a bare patch on her head from a rooster picking at her during a chicken auction.

ALSO THINK OF SIMPLE NAMES, LIKE MY COCHIN IS BIRD!
