Naptha soap !!!!!!!!!!!

Quote:
Well, since I wasn't quite sure what the end result should be, I dont know for certain if I should or not. I noticed that they were available in small and large bars so I got the multi-pack of large bars ... just used 1 in the recipe.

*I* think it's great! My wife, on the other hand, may wish for another bar in there.

I used Ivory the first two times I made laundry detergent and I found that it chunked up and was leaving residue all over my washing machine....sure smelled good though. I was able to find naptha at my local IGA. I guess if they are discontinuing it I better stop in and buy the last of the bars they had!

Its interesting using Felsnaptha- people who have plaque psoriasis can use this on their lesions! Its supposed to quiet them down. Just was with it, rinse and add oil/cream.
Also with the Vinegar someone just wrote about for the static- Most of the time we all use cold water to wash in and to rinse, well the water and soap are often not enough to kill certain bacterias( don't get grossed out and stop using this "detergent") and the vinegar will kill the yeasties that form from anything from us ladies, sweaty guys things etc.
Not only that, I had a crack on the top of my ear (glasses set) and I dipped my finger in the apple cider vinegar bottle, wiped it over the top of my ear, stung for a minute...cured with one swipe.
Being sensitive to most everything for laundry care products, I bet these recipies will be a wonderful change! Need a gallon of vinegar in the basement now(for the washer) LOL.
Thanks for the convo folks, I'll definately take some knowledge away with me today! Have a great one!

Do you also use the same amount per dishwasher load, just 1 TEAspoon?

I've mixed up a batch of The Recipe and have been using it in the washing machine, seems to be doing the job, hooray! I'm using a half tablespoon, which is 1 1/2 teaspoons. And just now my son says we're out of dishwashing liquid, so I'm going to mix up another batch, without the Fels, and try it in the dishwasher. Because I still have a lot left in the boxes of powder. Going to use 1 TEAspoon in each compartment.

Please let me know how much you've been using in the dishwasher.

A friend of mine buys Naptha soap online by the boxful.... I dont know where the shortage is, I just asked her the other day if she was having issues getting it and she said no

I do know it works great for poison ivy and poison oak though - dries it out instanty if you rub it over it

I've started using the recipe for dry detergent in December (I didn't use the bleach in HarleyGirl's recipe, though). I grated my first batch of Naptha soap using a hand crank cheese grater. Worked wonderfully to make it thin and fluffy. The second batch I ran through the food process for a much coarser result that I'm not too fond of, but it still works. For scent I added about 10 drops of orange essence oil to a recipe. I gave packets for 2 wash loads to friends and family for Christmas along with the recipe. I got a lot of rave reviews on that gift.

I've also started adding vinegar to my washes. I put some in the rinse cycle cup. About 1/2 cup. And I've stopped using those high chemical dryer sheets. I haven't had the static issues yet.

I buy my ingredients from local grocery stores. I haven't found any ingredients in a Wal-Mart or other national chain yet.

now I made mine with two cups each of the borax and arm and hammer and then one cup of the dry bleach. I am disappointed in the detergent. I have a front loader washer and hard water but my whites and anything with a stain on it does not come out. I am using cold to warm water. Should I be using hot water?
BeccaOh, I, too used my food processor for my second batch...it is too big, I liked it when my dh grated the soap on the box grater better. I like the way the clothes smell and generally clean it is just the fact that the whites..soles of socks...are not white and if I drop anything greasy on a shirt...while eating...I need a bib!..the stain doesn't come out. anyone who can help??

Ozark, I use Dollar General stain spray. It is the generic of Shout but it is only $1.50 and it gets the stains out better than Shout or spray in wash. Hope that helps ya
