I think with all the backyard breeding poodles got a bad rep. Before buying my poodle from a former show breeder I had actually never seen a nice poodle in person.

I know standards are more laid back and mini’s more active. Toys are more fragile and maybe bark a bit more. Toys are almost a different breed. My girl will bark if someone is at my house but stops when I tell her to quit. I can take her in public and if she hasn’t been around strangers in awhile she will bark but then gets over it and stops. We take her camping and she does great. If we are going swimming and I don’t want a wet dog I have to put her in her kennel. She jumps right in if she sees that we are in the pool and throws a fit if she sees us from the glass door and won’t let her come out and join the fun.
Right now my mini is laying next to me sleeping but if I were to stand up she would follow me and want to be with me. If she would see that I’m not going outside she would lay somewhere she can see me or play with her toys. She loves being active outside with me but doesn’t like being outside by herself. She does her business as quick as she can and comes right back in.

I wouldn’t recommend a doodle. Why mess with something that is already awesome? You get more unknowns when doodling.

I recommend going to this forum if you want to find out more. No breed is perfect so you will get those that have problems and you will see some that on this forum. https://www.poodleforum.com/

As far as shedding goes smooth collies shed as much as rough collies just with shorter hair to get stuck in your clothes.

Collies shed piles always. Then shed triple piles a few times a year no matter how much you brush.

Lol sounds like a lot of hair!!

Aw, some dogs I truly believe are angels sent to help us. :hugs

Very true.

Aussies are an American creation.

Yup, from western ranches.

Labs are the worse shedding dogs ever I believe.

Oh and Australian shepherds bark a lot.

Lol so true. Sooooo much hair. All over. All the time. But I don't mind lol

And oh wow maybe Aussies aren't good then unless they can be trained to shut up on command LOL

She really was a great dog.

Well you got me there lol, I've only known many aussies, never learned about them beyond what I was told. And my personal experiences, which were just all over the place. The homes were all similar, horse farms with active involved owners. Oddly different outcomes. No show lines I'm sure. Working dogs.

Was she anxious at all?

It's okay, the name is confusing lol and they were bred to work cattle on ranches so still tough I'm sure. And hmmm, how weird! I wonder if maybe show line ones are calmer or different at all? Or more trustworthy/predictable?

I think you are right. And also considered froo froo dogs lol and maybe I should get a mini or standard. Yours sounds great.

And idk, I guess I thought maybe a doodle would add some of the retriever temperament and/or goofiness but maybe I should just stick to a poodle cause the retrievers could also add mischief lol

And thanks for the link! I'll check that forum out.

And wow I didn't realize the smooth coated ones shedded

My girl was rarely what you'd call anxious but got a bit pacey if she wanted me to keep to her planned schedule for the day. I'll add that I couldn't crate train her though. I got her at 14 weeks and nope she never ever ever stopped crying in the crate. So maybe you could say that's an anxiety symptom?

One aussie that i knew for years chased, and caught, cars his whole life. He liked me lots. He showed this by sitting on my feet. Sounds nice right? Problem was he stayed there as long as HE wanted. And snarled at me if I tried to move. Or touch him. Or speak. My only out if his owner wasn't there was if I could slowly reach a horse brush. Then he'd go belly up to get brushed. No hand contact allowed. Psycho dog. Oddly I miss him lol.

Australian shepherds can become dominant over their owners easy, so you always have to stay on top of them otherwise they will rule your house.

I taught mine to stop barking on command. Only thing is it only stops that barking. They often stop for a few moments than continue until you tell them to stop again. I believe mine think they have found a loophole in the rules.

Yeah, that maybe could be or I wonder if maybe she had a bad experience im one? Sounds like a teeny bit of separation anxiety or something but doesn't sound like it was an issue. Was she ever like nervous or fearful? I guess that's maybe more what I meant a little bit

And wow, he does sound psycho! Lol and like he thinks he's the boss. What did his owner do, if anything?

Sounds like the dog ruralhideaway described had that issue lol

And oh wow! That's somewhat, funny somewhat annoying. Smart dogs made a loophole lol

He was a brilliant horse trainer, very much an alpha. The dog MOVED when he showed up. He knew I believed the snarling and snapping.

My collie was bold confident and quite joyful. Not the timid type.

Some dogs are like that, they know exactly what they can get away with and who. For example, my dad is a pushover and Gator knows it lol my mom on the otherhand, he's a little scared of her sometimes I think cause she'll yell at him but he listens immediately lol with me, with a lot of training and effort, he mostly listens to me but not every time. But if I come out after my dad, he knows he better listen and come in lol cause my dad will be like oh he doesn't want to come in, oh he needs a treat, etc. And I used to give him treats for coming in or to bribe him but really don't anymore and he knows he's just expected to listen but my dad will think he needs one cause he won't listen to him and I'm like he does not need one. He listens to me perfectly fine LOL granted, sometimes I do have to repeat it a few times, he needs to think about it first, then decides it's better to just listen. Most of the time. Occasionally I do still need food. But anyway, point is, dogs know what they can get away with. I think I would have tried to train that dog to listen to me haha

Wow she sounds awesome! That's good she was confident! I thought I read that some can be nervous

That dog did actually skip the controlling and just bite some people so i took him pretty seriously. He didn't take food from me either. I think he was truly crazy.

I would have gotten another collie but not sure you'd easily stop them chasing chickens. She didn't hurt them but now and then ran one down and pinned it.

So I just got a Livestock guardian dog puppy. A now 13 week old Turkish Kangal. I'm very happy with how he's doing so far.

Oh wow that's scary! I think I'd take him seriously too. Some dogs genuinely do have something wrong with them. He very well could have had something neurological! How come he kept him?

Ah that makes sense! Assuming they way to herd them or? Wonder if they could be trained to round them up haha they usuallu go to bed on their own though.

And awww he's adorable!! Thought he was an English Mastiff at first lol

He was a good farm dog, protective and brought the horses in. Good for the owner anyway!
