One of my Pullets has a swelling under her eye that doesn’t seem to me responding to Tylan. She’s been on Tylan for about 7 days now. Yesterday was the last day for dosing but now Her sinus under left eye has swelled up and eye is closed. She seems lethargic and is doing the open mouth breathing that is characteristic of URD.Does anyone have a recipe for an at home nasal flush that I can do? Swelling under eye is hard but not hot. There is no longer any discharge from her nose. She’s not sneezing to clear her nasal passages which I think is the problem

Can you post some photos? Pullet, eyes, face and inside of beak?
How old is she?
Were you giving Tylan injectable orally or Tylan soluble in the water? What dosage?

Without seeing it, the hard swelling under the eye is probably pus. Chicken pus is a semi-hard cheese like substance that has to be removed, it will not dry up on it's own.

The lethargy is concerning. You may be dealing with Mycoplasma or some other respiratory disease, it's hard to know. Mycoplasma responds well to Tylan treatment, but something like Coryza would require a different antibiotic.

Look inside the beak too please for any indication that there are sores or canker.

It might be better to try and squeeze any pus from the eye socket and sinus up through the roof of the beak. Pictures are helpful. Tylan can treat MG symptoms, but if there is pus, it needs to be removed. Also if there is secondary infection, such as E.coli or the bacteria that causes coryza, a different antibiotic would be needed. I would try to get the pus out first, and that might take a couple of attempts. Here are some rather graphic videos, but helpful:

I suspected mycoplasma and so got the water soluble Tylan from the doctor. It worked for a bit then the swelling came back. I’m
Not seeing any sores inside her mouth. She’s eating and drinking and comes to me for treats but not as aggressively as the others. The opening in the top of her mouth is clear. I will try to get some pics soon. She’s around 15-16 weeks old now

Can you post some pictures of her bad eye? The videos are gross, but they can be helpful to those who don’t have a vet.

When you open her eye, does she have any bubbles or drainage or pus in there? Can you try treating her eye with some Terramycin eye ointment twice a day? They sell it at many feed stores, but it is usually locked up. Plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment can be used in an emergency. I might try to push gently under her eye to see if anything comes out.

Her eye is watery probably from the pressure build up. I’m not seeing any pussy drainage. I will give it a push and see if anything comes out. Will check the feed store for terramycin ointment

I tried pushing on it and nothing came out. She is starting to smell funky and is holding her mouth open because the abscess is pushing into her mouth now. I wonder if this is Coryza and not MG since it didn’t quite respond to the Tylan.Poor thing is having trouble with depth perception too.
