Raising the waterer and the feeder with a 2X6 board helped us...we still get some shavings but no poop. We change it a few times a day anyway to make sure they have fresh water.

You can try using chicken nipples,that way they can't get anything in the water. I use them for my chickens.

Horizontal chicken nipples = the best invention ever! I was having the same issue; constant shavings and poo in their water. We bought the nipples from Amazon, installed them and my 5 week old chicks had it mastered within 15 minutes.

For my big gals, the water containers are up on bricks. Having a wire and shade cloth run cover, I do not really have anything to hang a container from.

With my bubs, mum is actually the main culprit in filling up the water container with dirt etc when teaching them to scratch.

I have their water container up on a brick with a stepping stone so they can reach it … it ain’t pretty but it has worked for 3 hatches ……

I have this really neat water dispenser that you put a mason jar in and the messy water bowl is kept to a minum, still gets messy but I don't have to clean it out as often
