Hello! I am here to talk about my first time incubating eggs in my 3 years of owning chickens! I’m sorry if this post is in the wrong forum I’m new here. I have a Buff Orpington sitting on a clutch of eggs (Which probably aren’t hers as most of them aren’t the color Orpington chickens lay) who I moved to a secure spot in my barn so she wouldn’t be bothered by the other hens and the rooster. She is in a pen that I set up with hardware cloth that is in a corner of my barn with a chick feeder and waterer available for her to drink from (and hopefully for the chicks to drink from!). I made a nest out of hay for her and I am currently on day 14 (at least from the time I moved her so the eggs might be older). Some of eggs seem to be laid by my silver-laced or gold-laced Wyandotte hens, some seem to be laid by my EE hens, and some look like cuckoo marans eggs, but there might be some light Brahma or buff Orpington eggs mixed in there as well. My rooster is an EE so I hope to see some cross-breeds, maybe even some Olive Eggers from the EE x Marans eggs. I candled around 3 not to disturb mum too much and 2 of those 3 had visible veins and were mostly dark, and the other one was just dark but that might be due to it being dark brown. I will keep you all updated on the progress!
