Natural "Perfume" for the Coop! Ideas?Perfumes

I agree with @lazy gardener and @aquabum, a well tended coop shouldn't smell that bad. I use hay and I clean my coop out every 2 weeks, the only time it smells "bad" is if the hay gets wet, and if that happens I clean it ASAP.

Of course, none of us are expecting to walk into the coop, take a deep breath and rant about how wonderful it smells, but you get where we are going ;)

I use pine shavings for the coop and scoop the poop every 2-3 weeks or whenever I have time when gathering eggs. Whenever I clean it out completely probably twice a year I sprinkle the sweet PDZ on the bottom before putting in the shavings. During the summer months I throw in some mint and lavender. My run is filled with river sand- no problems with smells. What are you using in your coop?

I don't have coop but I have a giant box for my roosters
I put some fresh of dried rose petals mix with jasmine
It gives very beautiful mild aroma and cover all the odor inside box
I also use Mint oil

I have also a parakeet odor buster spray but I didn't use it yet rose petal work best

I read that chamomile and lavender are calming so I add clippings to the coop and nesting boxes. As a bonus they smell really good.

I do pine chips that I change a couple times a year but have to admit there are times when I haven't stirred it around or some stinker has pooped in a nest and it can smell. My thought would be don't take that less frequent visitors near your coop .

Can you post some pictures of your coop? Do you have a poop board or scoop the poop from your sand bedding daily? I believe with sand you have to scoop poop every day to help with odors. It will be more beneficial to you and your chickens to solve the odor problem instead of trying to mask it.

I use deep bedding (wood shavings & straw) with poop boards in my coop and have deep litter in my run. I have no bad odors in or around my coop. I haven't cleaned out my coop since last April, but I have added fresh shavings on occasion. I also have some PDZ in the bedding.

A chicken feed overly rich in protein is the source of the ammonia stink in your chicken coop. Chickens, especially mature chickens can only metabolize X amount of protein. The remainder is eliminated in the chicken's manure and is converted into ammonia by natural processes. So in a very real sense chickens that are fed excess protein are blowing your money out of their vents.

I have heard that sand can get pretty smelly. I have never tried it, so I don't know personally.

Good ventilation, good maintenance should be all that you need. I don't think my coop smells generally, and if I noticed it I clean it. Never asked a visitor what they thought, though, and they've never offered ;)

I live within "city limits", neighbors are close & didn't know I had chickens :)
I have 4 BOs that are kept confined, have a poop board under their roost with PDZ in it, scoop every day. Their "floor" is hard clay dirt sprinkled with PDZ & a cushy layer of shavings, dusted with DE ... I also ferment their feed, that really helps with the amount of poo & smells besides no feed waste.
