Naughty drake

Hi we have 2 pekins/aylesburys 1 young drake and a year old duck,we introduced a new duck yesterday but our drake will not leave her alone he keeps pecking her and chasing her away. Is this normal behaviour??and how long will it take for him to accept her ?? Thank you

Hi and welcome to BYC We're so happy you've decided to join us When I introduce new ducks to the flock I put them in a shelter in pasture for a few days so everyone can get used to it, without being able to attack it. Then when I release, I monitor... A few minutes of harassment to establish pecking order is fine, more than that I'll tend to move them back into safety and give it a while longer.

Welcome to BYC. Remove the drake from the two ducks and allow them to bond. After a week or so reintroduce him to the two ducks.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you've joined us! I don't have a lot of experience with ducks as I only have 3 but when I added a new, young duck to the group this spring, the older ducks would chase her away and peck at her. She actualy spent most of the summer with the group of young chickens that were integrated with her. Only in the past month or so had she become a part of the duck flock. I think it just takes time.
