While I was at work for 5 hours tonight my two day old gosling's naval decided to get weird on me. It had a little yolk absorption problem but that worked itself out in the first hour after hatch. However the opening didn't really seem to completely close. I've been putting antibiotic ointment on it and noticed one side of the opening seemed larger than the other. I figured it'd just happened in the process of it closing. When I got home though I found that it was a lot larger and there's purple coloration to it like there's blood trapped under the skin or something. Is this a sign of an infection or what? Will it go away? Just looking for anyone who might have a little insight.
The gooey stuff around it is antibiotic ointment. It isn't oozing or anything. It actually dries out pretty quick.
