this thread has been going for a while and i always see it at top but never check it out. i dont know why. glad i did though. love the picture updates.
got any pics of the latest batch u got on 3/7/11.??? im sure theyve feathered out a good bit.

The batch from 3/7 is still out in the garage, and they are slowing feathering but haven't a HUGE amount just yet.
But yes, they have started so I'll try to post some new pictures soon so folks can see them. One died not too long after I got them, but luckily it was one of those I had picked up 2 others of as well. The Dominickers are going to look good I think!

You sure have a wide variety of birds. I used to have frizzles and silkies.....I want some more...I have RIRs, buff orps, barrred rock, and black australorp. I wish I could have as many as you do but space is limited. Aren't you close to Seagrove? I live in Wilmington, NC. the hot humid tropics.

You seem to have some of the best all around birds to be honest, so I think you've got a good base with those for sure. And space is always a limiting factor...so hard to stop "collecting" more chickens.

Yep, I'm not too far up the road from Seagrove. Hot and humid where you are but starting to get really enjoyable down there recently I bet!

The 3rd one popped out between when I walked in and looked at the second one and when I came back in from outside. Goodness!

And back to the chicks in the garage...

I didn't photo all of them, but all the different variations at least:

Pretty little buff banty:

Little blue legged banties:

Appears to be a lavender/self blue:

Lighter -

This bird has some HEAVILY covered feet. There's something wrong with its neck, as it walks with his head upside down half the time, but I'll keep it around if he continues to stay alive. I have another like him, but doesn't have near the covered feet it does:

Well, I may have got a pretty cool combination of 1 of the 3 chicks (now getting a bit bigger) outside. It appears I might have a Silkie & Japanese combination. Little thing is cute as can be, so I'll have a hard time getting rid of it I think.

Other two quasi-Speckled Sussex birds have a very attractive feathering coming in...one may be from my RIR hen and the other could be from one of the sex-links. Noticeable variation in the base coat coloring.

I'll see if I can get pictures this weekend.

UPDATE:

Well, first off, here are the young ones out in the garage:
As best as I can guess as of now, it appears I may have some EE banties, Dutch, and light Brahmas (one with the neck problem...need to figure it out). Out of the ones I hatched, I've got the Speckled Sussex-SL/RIR mixes, what appears to be a Barred Rock and possible Japanese mix, and another that I'd guess Cochin and RIR mix. The mixes are as much or more interesting looking than the others!

Now back outside...

The little Sussex-SL/RIR crosses outside should be shoe-in's for cockerels. They are attractive little suckers, but will need to find new homes I'm sure.

The only other young bird is the little attractive banty that I'm positive must be the Silkie-Japanese cross. I don't know that I'll be able to get rid of this one, especially if it turns out to be a hen. Cutest little bird I've had in a while I think!

And, by some luck they were together and standing still, a picture with the parents...

The Dominicker's must need to get bigger and a little less tentative, but until then, they huddle together in corners as the pecking order rituals are still in place:

Oh...and maybe it's time to file the Speckled Sussex 2"+ spurs down. I think so.
I provoked him a little, so I can't complain, but, to be fair, he did this THROUGH my Carhartt's.
Thankfully I was not wearing shorts.
