Thanks to my 10 year old son we are all in. I have always been fascinated with birds and wanted to have my own backyard flock of chickens. My son gave me a push by bringing home a left over hatching egg from school that has about a week left and is developing nicely in a make shift incubator. I am learning everything I can, which led me here. Thanks to everyone for making all of this information available!

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us. I'd suggest looking to source a couple of day old chicks, assuming you have success with your egg. Chickens are social animals, and thrive in the company of others. Good luck with your incubation. This link may be helpful - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/raising-your-baby-chicks, as are the hatch-a-long and incubating and hatching eggs forums.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

All the best

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join us here! How exciting for you :D Do you have any plans to get more chicks if the chick hatches? They really do do so much better with others as they are a flock animal. Good luck with your egg and I hope it hatches for you. Be sure to ask any questions, everyone here to help and very friendly.

Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow
