And i already have a list of some critters i would like to bring home. May be sianna's serama hens will find us there.
Definetly not the bad part!!! lol I like to surprise Mike with new critters. The look on his face is priceless.

I will have to go back through the thread and find his pics.
I am hoping to get my hands on at least one of the hooda naked necks too! We need to find out what number spot he will be in so we can go there first!
He posted pics of the adults and they were beautiful! I don't remember if they had tufts, but they were definately rumpless. I am really wanting a couple also.

everyone is distracted by those european fuzzy chickens and forgets about those awesome rumpless.

Kass and SpunkyChickenMomma, BanJoe's Araucana are beautiful! Their color is called Brown Red. I'm not sure if they have tufts but it's better to breed 1 tufted with an untufted. And if you're not planning to show them you wouldn't have to worry about tufts anyway. I had been going to get some but talked to him about it and have decided to go with eggs instead(which are incubating right now). So without my greedy-chick-fingers in the mix there should be more chicks for you all lol

LOL. I'm not really concerned with the tufts. Tufts and beards would be nice but not necessary. I want to use them to make some rumpless olive eggers and some rumpless naked necks.

Do you know how the tufted gene works?
Can a nontuft aru X non tuft aur = tufted offspring or
can a nontuft aru X non aru = tufted offspring

Just curious, tufts would be cool, but most of my ladies can't even keep beards I'm thinking the in a flock the tufts would get plucked by flock mates.

Hey Coral, saw where you said the barn would open at 8am and close at 5pm...what time will it be open to start setting up?

Kass, non to non=non...you need a tuft to make tuft.

FYI: The current North American standard for Araucana calls for a chicken that is rumpless (missing their last vertebrae and lacking a tail), possesses ear-tufts (feathers that grow out from near the birds' ears), and lays blue eggs. In the United States and Canada, muffs, beards, and tails are all disqualifications. For the rest of the World, specific features are feather ear tufts, muffs and beards, with a very much reduced comb, a small feather crest and a complete absence of wattles.

So it will depend on what you want to do as to the traits you want...if you're showing, no tail, has tuffs and no muffs and beards...my personal opinion, I like the ones with beards...but I'm an Ameraucana fancier anyway

+1 to what BFrancis said. You only need 1 tufted gene to get tufs. Some come out with only 1 tuft, some get 2 on one side but if they've got any tufts at all they have the tufted gene. If you breed tufted to tufted I like like 25% (?) die in the shell before their born. Lots of people do complain about other birds yanking their tufs off lol It's those little no-rumps that I think are so adorable!
