NE Oklahoma Chicken Stock - Let's Plan!

For folks driving to Muskogee from the NW part of the state, here's a general idea of how to get to the fairgrounds.

The rectangular barn just south of the round administration building is the place you want to end up. You'll want to take 5th Street off of South Cherokee Street. 5th Street runs right in front of the barn. You'll drop off your birds on the north side of the barn, at the far east end of the barn, on 5th street. From the red A on the map, continue south on S Cherokee St. Turn left (east) on 5th St. Go right (south) at the T in the road, and you'll come up to the barn as 5th street makes a gentle left turn.

i sure hope i can make it up there, if i do it will be later that day, who all is going to be there during the later part of it?
I think there will be people swapping and visiting until 5:00. At other gatherings of this kind it's been difficult to get our granddaughter to part with her friends to make the trip home. If the temperature comes down, I think people will migrate to the grassy area behind the barn after the raffle is over.

Here's an overview of events for N.E.O.C.S.

Drop off cages at the east door (the last door on the right), move cages into the dirt floor area, and then go park your vehicle. Come back and carry cages to your spaces.

6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. sellers enter barn and set up cages.
8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. buy, sell, trade, swap eggs and chickens
10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Center Arena Demonstration/Discussion: Capons
10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Center Arena Demonstration/Discussion: Feeder Insects
11:00 a.m. Start putting cages in order for the Pay the Seller Poultry Sale that begins at noon.
12:00 p.m. Pay the Seller Poultry Sale begins in the center arena
2:00 p.m. raffle winners drawn (approximate time... raffle will be announced and drawn after the poultry sale in the center arena ends)
3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Buy, Sell, Trade, Swap, Visit, Visit, Visit
4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Clean Up!
5:00 p.m. Wave goodbye and go home with our new chickens : )

The barn is labeled N.E.O.C.S. Barn on this map. Enter from S. Cherokee Street onto 5th Street. Follow 5th street around to the front (north side) of the barn. Go to the END of the barn, the east end, and drop off your cages. If you unload your cages at the west end of the barn, you'll have a long way to walk with them later. Park your vehicle after you move your cages into the dirt floor area of the barn. Still can't tell where the east end of the barn is? Look for the round administration building. Imagine the middle of this round building. That middle point is approximately at the end (the east end) of the barn. Aaaahhhh Haaaa! Yes! That's where the fancy sign will be directing you to Please Unload Your Cages Here : )

I posted this on the Okie's thread as well: Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, we're going to cancel the egg recipe contest. If all goes well Saturday, then we'll probably do this again next year, so there will be another opportunity for people to showcase their culinary arts achievements.

Looks like the weatherman is smiling on N.E.O.C.S.

Bring lawn chairs.

Coolers are stocked so we'll have plenty of ice cold water, pop, and tea.

Several people have asked me about how to display cages in the spaces. The spaces are show pens, so they have concrete floors and cattle panel sides.

Option 1. Put cages in your space directly on the concrete floor.
Option 2. put a table or tables in your space and put cages on tables. Spaces measure 6' wide by 8' long.
Option 3. Place shelf boards across the tops of three sides of your space and wire the ends of the boards to the cattle panels. This creates a "U" shaped shelf on three sides.
Option 4. Use wire to form supporting corners about six or twelve inches below the tops of the cattle panel sides. Rest shelf boards on the wire corners to for a "U" shaped shelf area that is inside your space and lower than the top of each cattle panel.
