Yesterday we got home from one sons soccer game to find another son had rescued one of our moscovey ducklings from the kiddie pool. We did not realize that ducklings can drown! We first thought putting it back with the mother might be the best bet for reviving it, it appeared lifeless but had a little heart beat. Mama duck immediately began pushing and pulling, pecking it to get it up. We realized pretty quickly that wasn't going to work. Researcher son said info online said get it on some heat. We put the base of our brooder under a towel laid near dead duckling on top. We also put a lamp on the side of the box, soccer son began rubbing the duckling who would drop its head off the side of the brooder and water came dripping out its beak. I had no hope this little creature would survive. It did after a couple of hours it began to fluff out, slowly lifting its head and in the end was back to normal! Amazing, we almost buried it when we first saw it! It has been put back in the pen with the mom and flock. Pool has been fenced to prevent any other tragedies.
