Waving! Everyone doing ok? Roo has frostbite. He's a giant single comb and freezes every year. Coop never dropped below 0. The night we hit -20 was harsh. But so far so good. They're ready to go OUT! Maybe sunday.
 
struggling with this frost bite thing, coop is ventilated properly and i have a heat lamp in there but both have it on their feet and combs, also i have a silkie and do not know if she has frostbite or not...hard to tell. i'm worried about my girls
 
I am against heat lamps. My roo gets frost bite from tucking his head under his wing and the moisture from his breathing condenses on his comb and wattles. When he gets up. Zap.
He's miserable now, but it will pass.
 
i am against them as well, but temps in the -25 below are tough, i am going to take it out the coming week as the temps will rise. Gonna go out and bring them in the basement tonight and let them prounce around for a bit to warm up
 
i have 3 girls, buff orphington blck sexlink and a silkie. They all get along great, i went out two nights ago and the two girls other than the silkie both had black on their combs and white on one. I just dont want them to get infected or lose them to this cold weather.

Thats from tucking and breathing. I've never had an infection problem nor have I had tips break off. My roosters comb is almost 3 inches high. His tips will blacken, hut heal. His waddles blacken and swell. Shrivel and then heal. I've only bothered with vaseline once. What a mess. Never again.
