How old are the hen's?

The Speckled Sussex is about 23 weeks, the barred rock is about 21, and the other 3 are about 22. Not sure who laud it but I'd guess the oldest?

My Orps are only about 15-16 weeks ..... can't wait....... built nest boxes last week .....

Just noticed that a house a block from me has 5 hens in a run between their garage and garden ..... stopped by to invite them to our merry band, but nobody was home ........

Now, I just need to teach them to USE the nesting boxes!

I've got the same fear: I made roosts for them, but thus far, they seem to prefer sleeping in a pile on the poopsceen ......

I have their nestbox blocked off, because I think if I let them in it, they'll just sleep there and fill it with poo ...... maybe when they get a bit older ( 20ish weeks?) and it gets cooler.....

Awesome! It's so exciting to get your first egg! My husband thought I was crazy because I was so excited but at least my kids were right there with me!

Mine slept in the nesting boxes right up until they started laying. I tried blocking them off, but they kept breaking through my barrier! Now they lay eggs in the nesting boxes (for the most part) and sleep in the roost!
