Necropsy in Texas?

We just lost our 6th chicken (about 1 per month, some sudden, one sick for 4 wks). I'd like to know where to get a necropsy before all of our favorite chickens are gone.

We live near Houston. It needs to be really cheap!

Contact your Dept of Agriculture. Should be a listing of poultry labs in your state you could find just by googling.

veterinary hospitals and clinics in Texas and throughout the country.
Two poultry labs, one in Center, Texas and the other in Gonzales,
Texas, serve the poultry industry through disease surveillance and
diagnostic testing.
Some of our local Austin folks take chickens for necropsy ( find out
the cause of their death) to the TVMDL lab in Gonzalez. There are
poultry labs in Gonzalez and Center, TX.

Some folks have sent their dead chickens to this lab where they will study their cause of death. You can even call them and chat with an avian specialist to get more info. Ship them in an ice chest packed with ice using next day delivery. Do not freeze the body. Just refrigerate them until you ship. Check shipping rates verses gas to drive to the lab.​

I think he works out of the Bryan/College Station location. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and i'm sure he could point you in the right direction. I'm sure that if you explain your situation to him, he could tell you exactly what is available in our state.

Thank you both! This should help. I just wish I had put the chicken in the fridge so we didn't have to wait for the next one that dies. I'm pretty sure my husband would not have let me!
