One of our chickens died this morning with no outward symptoms or strange behavior beforehand. She was 5 years old (easter egger) and still laying. We are curious about the cause of death and I would like to perform a necropsy on her to check for parasites so that we could potentially treat the rest of the flock (4). Unfortunately I will not be home until a couple of days and so she is in the freezer. I read that freezing disrupts a professional necropsy by giving potentially false results, however, since I am doing a much less sophisticated test, I wonder if freezing will actually be a problem. How does freezing affect the organs? Is there anything that I should disregard after the freezing?

Welcome to BYC. I have no answer for you. I think some state vets will go ahead and try to do a necropsy if the body has been frozen short term, but it is always best to do one on body that is not frozen, but kept cold, as soon as possible after death because the tissues break down. If the people at home who froze the bird could get it to your state vet lab today, it still might be done. In what state did the chicken die? Maybe others will have answers for you. Here is a list of state vets to contact and you can also ask yours these questions:
