Necropsy Photos. Very graphic. If you're squeamish, don't look.

Hey Peter T. Welcome to BYC! I see you're a newbie (at least to posting) and I hope you come back.

Thank you for sharing your pictures. It looks like you're right... may be the same thing. Her liver looks nice and dark so you're taking good care of them. Don't feel that it is a result of something you did wrong. It absolutely is not. The organs look healthy, despite the cancer (and I'm referring to color and absence of a lot of fat).

I had a hen die just the other day that I believe is the same thing. Lots of fluid and nodules in the abdomen. I noticed her the night before because she was sleeping on the ground of the coop. I tried to put her up on a roost, but she couldn't hold on tightly enough with her feet. Her feet were also very cold unlike the other chickens. The next morning she was dead. I've attached pictures of the necropsy. I also noticed a dark area of the liver with two white spots in the middle. Not sure if it's related.

Most likely that is metastatic ovarian cancer in her liver. The more advanced the cancer, the more likely there is to be liver metastasis.

Thank you for posting this and thank you to the reply with the additional photos and stages. As I searched for "fused intestines" today I found this thread (almost 6 years later) and it has helped me understand what I was looking as I cried my way through the necropsy of my favorite girl. When I saw what was inside I knew she never had a chance in spite of my efforts. Everything was hard and fused. Surprisingly, though her liver was enlarged, there were no lesions on it. Her heart was small (atrophied?).

Anyway, thanks again for sharing your experience and knowledge.
