I have a 1-year-old Cuckoo Marans hen that died overnight. She's been acting normal up until about 2 days ago. She started hiding constantly and was getting picked on. I also noticed her abdomen was very swollen. She had started growing spurs too (about ½" long), which I didn't think anything of several months ago, but now I wonder if that was a sign that she had something wrong with her reproductive tract.
I did a necropsy, but it's my first one so I don't know exactly what I'm looking at. To me the liver, lungs, heart, kidneys, and breast meat all looked normal. She had a lot of fat around her vent. Not sure if this is normal or not, but all of her inestines seemed adhered to each other and the abdominal wall. I believe it was her oviduct that had yellow pus coming out when I touched it. It smelled horrible. I kept cutting into where the pus was coming from and found several tumor-looking things. They were quite large (4-5 inches long each) and not attached to anything. They slid right out. I cut one smaller one open and it looked like meat inside. My first though was reproductive cancer, but now I wonder if it's salpingitis. I haven't seen any lash eggs or abnormal eggs over the last few months. If it is salpingitis does the entire flock need to be treated?
Sorry for only getting a few pictures. I wish I would have taken more.
