Got 12 Chicks ( American Bresse ) and they’re less than 1 week old. Lost one the second day. Found it in the morning and it’s beak and eyes were all necrotic. I thought it was faster decay since the temps were hot. Took it out as soon and disposed of it as I found it in the morning.

Today I found 3 more still alive with necrosis on upper beaks. I took them out and culled them and added doxycycline to their water. Ordered metronidazole just now. Any experienideas or help appreciated

Sorry for your loss. Mine all hatched out ok, and have grown out well. Where did you get your's from? Maybe they were inbred too much?
I doubt it, I got them from Bresse Farms. I already contacted the owner to let them know about the problem so they can be aware. They gave me a discount code for $25 off next order, which is fine, but I really just wanted to let him know of a possible infection.

Also forgot to mention, the rate of necrosis seem very fast. Not sure if that help narrow it down to one thing or another. Seems like it would have to be bacterial or Protozoa.

Nice they will do that for you, and good that you told them. I hope that things work out for you. These are beautiful bird's! I'm waiting for mine to start laying eggs.

Thanks! I have a flock of 11 American Bresse that are 10 weeks old now. In a different area. I’ll probably still put them on doxycycline though

Wow that is scary!! If that is a bacterial infection that is eating flesh and horn that quickly you want to be contacting your state Ag Dept diagnostics lab and getting them tested pronto. Personally I would not mess with giving them antibiotics until you know what it is or you could be helping create a super bug.
Seriously.... get them tested!
