Ok so I posted a pic of this little one a couple weeks ago. Everyone said they were sure it was a silkie which is what I thought but since the feed store was adamant about not having silkies I asked. Ok so he was kinda a dark silvery grey. Ok so the little bugger has now added what looks like a white fuzzy ring around its neck. almost like its wearing an old stole. Is a black silkie supposed to have that. Are we sure its a silkie cause I am not seeing pics like this.

I will take a newer pic as soon as the kids remember where they put the camera.

Are the wings kind of like, bending backwards? It might be a Frizzle if so.
I have one, so that's the only way I know, I'm no expert, sorry if I'm wrong.

Silkie it is! Hatchery birds can be mutts occasionally, so there's no telling what color it'll morph into - but most likely, you'll get a black... I have three black-ish hatchery Silkies right now, and one has a white bottom - didn't have that before... I'm guessing that it's just developing into some "practice" fluff. I noticed yours has a light colored beak... one of mine has pink toes... those are not quality traits, so you and I could never show our birds, but to me- that's not an issue. I wonder what the people at the store you bought your chick from think a Silkie must be?

it's a cute little rascal though!

I re-read your post and the person's above mine... please keep us posted. Now I'm wondering... white ring? feathers backward? hmmmm... I have a mixed mutt thing that I think is a Cochin / Silkie cross... maybe yours is a Silkie / _______ - whatever it is, it is positively Silkie... and darn cute too.

oh I am not in this to show birds or even sell birds. These are all just for personal pleasure. My husband told me to get a hobby so rather than take up knitting I took up chickens. Little did he know how much building and work my hobby would make for him.

I am more just interested in knowing what I have or even guesses at what i have. I decided to skip going for one breed and just grab every variety that takes my fancy or even chicks that just look lonely and have to come home with me.

I don't think the wings are doing that I'll see if I can't get a better pic once we find that stupid camera.
