Hi guys im a new chuck lover,its been a terrible week this week and really dis-heartend me,I had get my hubby to cull 2 chicks we travelled miles to get because they had this crazy spreading skin infection and we were worried our other chicks would catch it,and we had just paid a vet bill for our sneezing silkie,they where a white mini silkie and a blue bantam silkie...just as I got over that our cream legbar rooster and white bantam silkie just vanished from my garden today I have NO idea how they could escape with no trace they where 10 weeks old and just started letting me pet them :-( my hubbys took it on the chin saying its just chickens weve got more,I never realised id get so attached after all his right they are just chickens,I think its all the hard work you put in nurturing them from birth,I dont know...
Anyway thats my bit of venting feel a lil better already,thanks for reading

I'm so sorry.

Let me tell you, we do get attached to our chickens, after all, some of us have them as pets as well. They are part of the family. Never feel bad about that.

Well he's not a chicken lover yet, you do get attached. they end up being your kids. They don't ask for much but some attention every now and again. Soon he'll get jeolous because your spending a lot of time with your chickens.

There's always at aleast a favorite in the bunch, one that really depends and trust you. When that one is gone, OMG, its like someone took your baby right out of your arms.

So hang in there, you'll end up with another favorite or two and you'll be more protective of it.. LOL...

Thank you I dont feel crazy now,its really broke my heart there my two eldest I had them from hatch they were what made me end up with another 7 chicks,and gave me a lil project to have a lil mommy time,ive already had the "you spend to much time with chickens convo" but I think they bring a lil peace
The hussle and bussle of daily life,I have learned one lesson im going to invest on better fencing and security before my lil chicks are ready to flee the nest,thanks for your support x

YEP, let me let you in on a little secret. YOU HAVE: NECD disease. NECD is the (Never Enough Chicken disease).. You can't get rid of it, it only gets worst and you want more and more and more chickens. It's a disease that is OUT of CONTROl with all of us chicken lovers.

Just try and stay away from incubating because that's another disease called, CSHD. (can't stop hatching disease). LOL,

SO you got the prep talk about spending time with them. LOL I was called a Hoarder.. LOL.. YEP, my husband tells me he wants more call ducks well I'm up to 25 Call ducks now, I have over 200 chickens and I'm a HOARDER.. LOL.

Well I'm enjoying my Hoarder life. It does give you a moment of peace, takes the stress away.. and gives you something to look forward tooo.

AND yes, chickens teach us something ALL the time, wether it's to improve the coop to make it safer, or lack of some vitamins, whatever the case maybe, you can always learn from a chicken..

Loooool thats made me smile NECD do they have a pill for it? Because this disease is costing me alot of petrol haha.
And I cant wait to get into breeding I have the intention of selling but I know ill end up saying well Ill keep this hatch and sell the next I cant imagine life without staring into my incubator full of unsexed baby chicks and the anticipation of what they will be lol,I think my silkie that ran away today was a pullet that hurts so bad,but now I must focus on raising the babys and I hope I have better luck x

OH boy, yep, the NECD disease has traveled throughout your body and now your talking CSHD. OH boy, NOPE no pill or shot available yet.

they thought they found a cure for it but only to discover the disease spread quickly, fast and when it Hit it Hit REALLY HARD.. they are having a really hard time to get it uncontrol.... It's one of those things that you have to catch from the very beginning, your first little chick. Apparently, researchers could not get to chickens lovers' home in time, to treat the disease. So the NECD just attacked and travel thoughout your body.. attacking the major organs, heart, Brain and tempting/grabby hands..

It's worst then any Chicken disease you can think of, Mareks etc.. The only good thing is it can't kill you.. But does take Full control..

I'm telling you you must stay away from the CSHD, it's a horrible disease, it's worst then NECD.. You'll end up being a hoarder like me. LOL..

SAFTB, (step away from the Bator) that is the ONLY cure for the CSHD. LOL....

Good luck and try to live life with your new disease,,, I have managed... LOL

With my tiny garden I think ill end up swimming in a sea of chicks everytime I open the back door,its great to know im not the only person effected with this virus and backyard chicken is the worse place to go if your looking for a cure I came on to get my hubbys statement of "there just chickens" validated and continue to mope around the house instead youve got me in the frame of mind I shall carry on and get my legbars next week LOL there not just chickens there MY chickens...I now have a diagnosis and NECD is who I am and im proud =D thank you so much I you really cheered me up =D

Hahahaha!!
