Need a little information

Okay. I would probably need to get a few new birds every now and then to be sure they stay healthy.

Hello! I have a few new questions. I was doing some reading and lots of people say to never put quail near chickens as bacteria can pass by them and kill them. However the quail I have are about a foot away from my chicken coop and before I had them they were handled after chickens as well. They appear fine and have even started to lay eggs, so should I separate them?

I have my quail aviary on one side of the garden and my bantams hutch on the other, they free range and sometimes check out the quails but I've never had any diseases or illnesses pass onto them so I reckon they should be fine

also coturnix quail do not live for 2 years.....they can live for over 5 years. My oldest girlie was 7 when she passed. And if I were you, I would buy another girl or two for your current boy, and get a new male for the sisters

or just swap your boy if you aren't too attached

Okay that's great to know! I'm glad that they live longer than expected. My neighbors son had a golden quail that he treated like a stuffed animal and wasn't very kind to...They saw him throwing sticks at it and gave him to me. Once the sore on his chest heals I can put him with the sisters and get new girls for the other male. Thanks for the advice!

oh my gosh that's terrible!!

coturnix are quite affectionate when they're happy, sometimes mine like to come up and snuggle into my leg for a good nap

but they don't tend to like being handled.....however, my girl Potato loves when I hold her cause my hands are warm hahaha sometimes she falls asleep there

but that's good, hope he heals up quick! and I wish you best of luck with your birdies

Thank you! My quail are still wary around me, but it is understandable considering where they came from.
