So this afternoon i went to check on my ancona ducklings, they are 4 weeks old last monday and the first born is the size of my shoe which is a size 8.
My mom decided last week it would be okay if we put a deep bowl in with lots of water, and the ducklings did fine for a week.
i failed to tell her that she will need a shorter bowl because the littlest one did fine over night, and im kicking my self in the bum for this.
i checked on them this afternoon and the first born duckling was standing by the water bowl peeping and would not move but just stood there peeping and i look around the stall to see where the smallest one was because he is pretty good at blending but even when i opened the gate the first born wouldnt move away from the water bowl and i noticed a shadowy object in the water bowl.
I knew immediately i made the biggest mistake in raising waterfowl and not following directions :( I cried so hard because i tried so hard to keep petrie going and to make sure he/she was okay enough to be outside and it seemed like it but he/she was not ready i guess :/

The smallest duckling petrie was found dead this afternoon in the water bowl. By the big ducks reaction i dont think he did it, or at least didnt do it on purpose, i know how much ducky, the bigger duck can be a spaz and he probably bumped petrie into the bowl by accident. :( its so my fault for leaving that big bowl in there i feel so horrible.

Needless to say i have learnt to follow directions because they are there for a reason.
Ducky now follows me everywhere, and hes/ she's staying in my room until i can get a new friend for her if thats possible.

Does anyone know of any good hatcheries in Idaho that i can get a duckling at? any kind of duck it doesnt matter just as long as i can help ducky.
If i cant help ducky by getting him/her a new duckmate because it would be a bad idea....what do i do? Everyone says not to let your ducks get too attatched to you.

:/
