Need advice for what to use around the pond.

My family and I just put in a pond and we tried to use plants from around the streams near by to put around it, but they mostly ended up dying. I have one duck sitting on a nest and I wanted advice as to which plants would be best to use for hiding and shading the babies. Also a list of any that might hurt them? Much appreciated

Most plants need a bit of protection from the ducks when they start growing.
I would use gunnera manicata, petasites species.

You need plants with a headstart...

Maybe you could juss plant a small tree and some bushes to shade the babys & Then Depending on how big the pond is start expanding your flock of ducks
