Good luck with whatever you decide they are both super cute puppies but that grey one

good thing I am not anywhere near where they are at.

How about talking her into keeping one for you until 8 weeks?

Adorable to be sure, but no way that dad is pure GP- I have one I can send you a picture of later if you pm me, he is at home, I am at work.

Those dogs are not purebreds. Dam may be a small part Newfie, but has at least one other breed in the mix. Remember, you get what you pay for. If the pups are free then take both and they'll get plenty of socialization with the dogs you have. I don't know that I would actually spend any money on them. I will pay adoption fees at a pound, but don't like to encourage people who are breeding mutts or poor examples of breeds. I know it sounds harsh, but I am a big advocate for spay/neuter programs.

I know neither sire nor dam are purebreds after seeing the pictures, and especially now after seeing them in person. The dad especially now that I've seen him in person looks more like Anatolian Shep. than a Great Pyr. He certainly has the size for an LGD...he was a big, big dog and still growing at only 2.5ish years old. The mom I wonder if she's got some Aussie in her. the way her lower legs are spotted remind me a lot of the look of many Aussies or cattle dogs. Also, the greyish pup has blue eyes. Blue eyes...not that shade of gray that puppies eyes often are. I wanted to adopt a pup from the pound or the Humane Society. Every pup I've seen in these last few months has been some sort of pit bull or Rottie mix...or a small dog (we aren't small dog types). I have zero interest in pit bulls or Rotties. I know they can be really wonderful dogs and many of you love them, but we didn't want one. This lady was asking a small fee for the pups, but nothing like the rescues, Humane Society, or even the pound charges for puppies these days. However, I digress...

So, I would've taken both pups so they could get through that vital puppy period together. By the time I got there however, the female black one was spoken for. Just as well, we liked the greyish one anyway. According to the lady we got him from, mama dog stopped nursing them. She was a very sweet dog, and I think what was likely happening was the natural early weaning period that starts around 4 weeks rather than some sort of abandonment. I asked if she'd mind letting the pups stay with mama dog for a little while longer, but she wanted homes for the pups now. I think she assumed that since they were eating moist puppy food that they would be fine going to their new homes. Lots of socialization ahead for this pup to ensure he turns into another great dog. Thanks for all the input everyone!

So did you bring him home? If so, pics are compulsory

I just love the white bootees.

Yep, we took the grey one home. The kids are in love. We still haven't picked a name though...

I'll post pics tomorrow sometime.

OMG that grey boy is a cute thing!
I can't wait to see him in a couple months.

That woman was guilting you into taking a puppy. Some of us have such big hearts it is hard to turn down a puppy or puppies in need.
I wish you would have been able to get them both. I hope that the little girl finds a good home.
