Hen was on eggs, 21 days was Thursday. First one hatched out on Wednesday noonish. Had some more wednesday and Thursday and then noonish on Friday she got up and moved nest and babies and was doen with eggs. When she has done this in the past there were never any babies in the eggs she left. Since it was only day 22 my son left them in nest (AZ 102 degrees) for the afternoon and then when she did not go back, he took them in the house and put them on a heating pad since when he candeled them they were dark with air sack -he wanted to give them a chance. Well by Saturday evening nothing happened and was smelling liked cooked egg so we decided they were no good and took them off the heating pad and into a container so we could ispose of them. they were still in his room when they got home last night at 1:30 and the eggs were cold (room temp 83) but one was peeping. Immedietly put it on heating pad on a wet warm washcloth. It is continuing to peep and we can hear it pecking.

What can we do to give it a chance?? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Update...it has broken through the shell and is actively trying zipping. Son actually felt egg to see if it was warm and said the whole top feels loose.

Question? I am concerned about it being humid enough. Should I keep the washcloth wet or not?

I'd say keep it wet. You don't know how long it's going to take the little one to hatch (though it sounds quite eager) and it's best not to let it dry out.
What are you going to call it? "Surprise"?

Got to love chicks! I had a similar experience with a very late hatcher once.

Well she is here. Had a little trouble zipping so we finally ended up helping fter 18 hours of working and not getting anything but a big hole. Seems the membrane was dried on her a bit. Once we got some of that off she was able to get out and is very active and noisy right now. There were several places on her that the membrane was dried to her but looks like all is off except the stuff on her back. You can see it in the picture. I'll get more pics when she is fluffy.

Oh, she so cute

Thanks for the pic. I'm glad she's o.k. Little surprise baby!
I had one born 3 days after we thought the hatch was over. She was lucky the weather was awful, so we kept mom on the nest and she kept the egg warm. When we took mom and the babies out I saw the egg pipped. I couldn't believe it!
Chickens are full of surprises...
