Need advice immediately about shipped chicks!

I called Ideal and they said there should be packing peanuts in there with them. Then I called the post office back and they took down my name, address, and phone number. They said they'd call when they get the chicks and deliver them to me. I think I trust my mail man, haha. If they give me an option when they call I will go and get them though. He didn't say that they aren't coming today so many they will come in the next hour. If not there is still hope for tomorrow. I really hope the male chicks help keep my babies warm.

Live animal shipping is clearly marked and in case of chicks heard. They wouldn't be stacked in with other parcel packages and would be first to be carried into the post office when the truck arrives.

I've always preferred to pick them up. I talk to the postmaster and let them know I don't care what time of day or night they call me. Just call me and I'll come get them. Have your brooder heated & ready before you bring them home. I prefer red infrared bulbs to others since it calms them down. Some folks don't dip beaks upon setting each one in the brooder. I do. I give them access to vitamin-electrolyte treated water, and watch them drink to make sure they all do. I then remove the water after about 15 minutes, then put it back in about a half hour. Sometimes they drink too much and can get aspirated (water in the air sac). I've found that method to reduce those chances. I keep them on paper towels on top of shavings, and change them regularly the first week. Good luck with those chicks.

I usually dip the beaks just to be safe. It's a great idea to remove the water so they don't overdrink. My electrolytes have expired can I use sugar water instead? I have probiotics too. They may have electrolytes in them I gotta check! I don't have a red bulb, just a night bulb.

Lukewarm sugar water will work. I pretty much do the same as Michael Apple. Home improvement stores carry the red infrared bulbs.
