Need advice. My ducks got attacked by dogs. They are in pretty rough shape.

The vet I consulted said NOT to give antibiotics if you are planning to eat the eggs. I agree with Mrs. B.

I will administer Tylan injectable or TerraVet powder for respiratory distress and still eat their eggs.

You can give antibiotics for the most part without issue, but Baytril is one of those that renders a bird "useless" for eggs/meat/utility purposes. There are a few others, but they escape me.

Otherwise, "over the counter" antibiotics are fine to use... but only after you have identified the issue to treat for. Throwing antibiotics at a bird is never a good idea.

PS - If you haven't opened it, I would return it and get some Tylan 50 or Tylan 200 instead... It's great to have on hand if a chicken starts wheezing or has nasal discharge. :)

My duck just got attacked by something and she has a big gash/slash on her back between her wings. She has blood in her mouth and is breathing heavy... I fear she will die and gave her a small dose of metacam to ease the pain... I'm worried to flush the gash and do more harm than good... I put her in a crate in the basement where it's quiet and dark with food and water. I feel sick and have no idea what to do next.

I'm very sorry to hear about your duck.

If you can find chlorihexidine at a drug store, that's what I would use to clean it... Here in the States, it's kept next to the hydrogen peroxide.

Offer her high-protein treats like cooked ground beef with the fat drained off, boiled eggs, meal worms, quinoa. The extra protein will assist in rebuilding tissue.

Keep her warm!!!

If she goes off food and water, you may have to tube her.
