I had 4 out of 5 chicks hatch throughout the day today. The last one pipped through the outer shell this morning but hasn't started zipping yet. Normally I wouldn't be worried but I had to open the incubator a few minutes ago and I'm worried about shrink wrapping him/her. One of the umbilical cords was wrapped tightly around one of the chicks legs and I noticed his leg started to swell. Was pretty hard getting off to. I tried to wait until the last one hatched before getting this off his leg but once I saw the swelling I had to help. In the meantime I am worried that I might have messed up the last one from hatching. Should I help him out wait and if waiting how long before I help

In all my experiences it's better to leave them be, and let them do it on there on. If it's been awhile(12hrs) and there's no progress then yes you can help. As long as the humidity is good in the incubator and you just opened for a minute then everything should be fine
