I currently have 1 rooster and 3 hens. One of my hens finally had her first babies 2 days ago. Well the other hens were very hostile to her and the chicks so I separated them. Unfortunately I was a little too late for one of the chicks, because the others got to it before I did and well I will not share what happened then. Anyway, I now have the hen and her babies in a pen however I am worried that she will hurt them because when she scratches the babies are underneath her and she ends up kicking them or rather throwing them. She is a very good mother otherwise but should I separate the hen from the chicks? I also don't want the chicks to be afraid of us when they get older. I want them to be tame like the ones I currently have. I am quite new at this, even though I raised the current ones I have, I have never dealt with babies and the mom at the same time. What is the best thing to do?
