I am converting an old building into a coop and, of course, I want it preditor proof as possible.

The back side is about 12 ft. tall with a wall that goes streight up to the roof. There is no blocking at the top between 2 x 6 and the roof, leaving spaces about 2 ft. x 6 inches at the very top of this wall. Is it ok to leave that open or will some kind of preditor be able to enter the coop? We do have lots of raccoons around but I don't know how a coon could climb up that wall to get in.

We live in Western Washington so snakes are not a problem and there are no trees near the building.

They probably can't climb that wall, but if it is a rough enough wood, maybe ...

We have vented eaves like that on our coop, and I covered them with hardware cloth. -- That's 1/2"x1/2" wire mesh. That would be my recommendation.
