need advice on using a covering for plywood floor of coop

I used a rubberized roof coat product I got from Lowes (Blackjack #57). If it can stand up to all kinds of weather extremes protecting a roof, taking care of a coop floor is nothing to this stuff. Unlike vinyl or linoleum, which can break down over time and allow moisture to get in between it and your wood floor. This roofcoat bonds, and actually becomes part of the floor. It seals all the gaps and joints of the floor, along with the joint/gap where the walls meet the floor. To apply, stir well, and just dump a big dollop on the floor and push it around with a roller. I've had this stuff down in my coop for over three years, and it looks the same as the day I applied it.

This stuff sounds good I have to try it on the next coop.. I have linoleum on the floors and the wall on mine works good too.

I have the vinyl flooring, but the thing I don't like is that the pine shavings are moved around too much by the chickens, leaving the floor uncovered. The Blackjack 57 sounds good, maybe less slippery.

Neat idea. I just finished my coop by convertimg an old old corn crib. It is about 16ft by 8ft and has an elevated wooden floor. I was wondering what to use to keep it dry and prevent rot. Is the Blackjack 57 toxic in anh way to chickens? What type bedding do you use? Thanks in advance for your help!
After it drys, it is not toxic in any way. The chickens can't do anything to this stuff, by scratching around or pecking. It is just one tough rubberlike membrane over the floor. It is not slippery like vinyl or linoleum can be. My coop's floor is also 8X16'. As far as bedding goes, I am using pine shavings. But I have sand (More or less dirt now) up by the open front.

Appreciate your response. I believe I will make a trip to Lowes and give it a try. Sounds like the most logical means of protecting a wood floor. Thanks again.

You could also use cement board. My coop has a concrete floor, but I am going to be moving the coop away from the house a bit, and since I don't want the hassle and expense of pouring a concrete floor, I am going to use cement board. You can clean it with a pressure washer like concrete, it isn't so slippery like linoleum, and its about the same price as plywood.

Someone else mentioned Blackjack #57 on this forum, but didn't go into any detail as you have done here. I checked it out at Lowes, and it looks like a good product. With what you said here, I think this is what I am going to use for the floor and few inches of the wall. Thanks for the mini-review.

I would like to use blackjack 57 for my coop floor too and I have a question for those of you that used it in their coop, what does it say on the blackjack 57 label? I have looked on the lowes website and there are many types of blackjack 57 roofing cement. Some are going for like $150 for 5 gallons, and other types are like $40 for 5 gallons. I am hoping you guys are using the cheaper stuff! Thanks for any help.
