need advice Sebbie egg hatching ?

Lop, I asked your experience because there has been a rash of first time hatchers doing waterfowl and ripping into eggs not knowing anything about hatches.
Did this gosling pip at the fat end or narrow end of the egg. It is unclear from your description as you said upside down. Upside down refers to hatching out of the pointy end, so that's why the confusion on where your goslings is facing.
Be sure to keep gauze around and on the membrane to keep it moist so the gosling doesn't get stuck to it. Tall bowls of hot water will help boost humidity quickly inside to help the membrane too.
Has the second egg internally pipped yet?
Don't take my responses the wrong way, I am clinical and fact/detailed with responses to situations like this. I also won't offer advice to someone to help who has never hatched before. I asked your hatch experience for a reason, to know what answers to give back. As I stated above, I won't tell a first time hatcher to help. Have read too many times someone who was hatching for the first time and "helped" only ripping into an egg and killing hatchlings. Panic tends to take over inexperienced hatchers, creating larger problems.
I have helped when needed, but do so in as small a way as possible. There are too many doing too much too soon. The posts all seem to start with, "help I opened the fat end of the egg and can't find the bill! "
If your second has internally pipped now they should both hatch about the same time. The second you create any hole in the shell, even what is called the rescue hole to give extra air it slows the hatch process down. So plan for extra time on the hatch of the first you opened so it could breath. It can be a 12-24 hour change in hatching from it would have had everything gone right without help.
Oh and paper towels dry out quickly and wick moisture away from the egg, gauze works better, cotton rounds for make up with a vet wrap covering.
Thanks for the tip on the guaze or cotton. I have noticed when I have used it before that they dry out pretty fast so that will help and will try that. I don't like to help if I dont have to.

As for your question it did pip at fat end thankfully. It is doing good this morning. Needed re moistened but other then that looks good breathing good and normal. At this point just waiting and keeping a eye on moister so it does not dry out.

As for egg 2 still has yet to pip still nice size air sack unsure what will happen with it or if it will just be a late hatcher.

I do understand why you asked questions and understand many may rush to fast and maybe I did also, but my experience told me I needed to help or I would have lost it. I have hard time writing /typing on here to explain, easyer for me to do it either on the phone or in person then typing but sometimes that is my only resource for help. It is very easy to write something and it being taken a completly different way then you entended it to be taken. My DH hates email and many other thing because of that.

Sorry if I did not explain the situation well either. Im not the best writer or speller it is a big weakness of mine.

So I am seeing the beak top side up on top right side of egg. This is after you turned egg right side up. And based on you peeling pattern you entered top of fat end air dip side up and worked your way down? If so, excellent job.

Yes I did it slow and steady very happy with my self on this one no blood issues. Just nice and slow being very carefull. This Morning it was a bit dry paper towels had dried out over night going to use the suggestion and use cotton or guaze in a minute I hate opening it up to much but need to keep it going good.

Sounds like things are progressing well and you did the right thing. Look forward to more updates and if you run into any snags... ask away and I'll do what I can to help (although Celtic has a ton more experience than me).

Were these eggs shipped? A 50% hatch would be outstanding then for shipped Sebastopol eggs.
Yes got them from kim so They were shipped. I started with 5 eggs only 2 made to lock down the rest were earlie quiters. I got 5 from another person last week and only 1 started to develope on that batch. they were pretty scrambled though so even 1 developing was good for that bunch. I maybe getting more from that person but that depends on the geese.

I was really hoping to get 2-3 sebbies this year or that was my goal. I tried order gooslings but many had already sold out so I decided to try and hatch instead. Shipping is hard on them and of course geese are not the easiest thing to hatch either.

May try for gooslings again next year and just start looking ealier, I started looking in March with no luck.

March really? We are still hatching and selling goslings now. You are right on the 1 out of a batch or scrambled being a good result. Good luck with these two currently hatching. I get to move more of our eggs into the hatcher twice this week.

I may very well be contacting you depending how these go! I was looking at cottage rose and few others when I was looking earlie earlie spring. I know cottage will have juvinielles later in the year but I would perfer babies to bound with and train. I like all the colors even white so not really picky just want decent stock to start off with.

Baby is still doing good it was moving allot this moring trying to free itself from the shell, by mid day it had 1 wing out and know it has its head out and is resting. I figure by morning it will be all the way out if it doesn't do it sooner. Its so

can't wait for it to be fully dry so I can take it out and get some pictures. My other egg is still alive and no pip yet maybe once the other 1 get out it may try to pip seems to work like that sometimes.
