We are on day 22 today. All our chicks started hatching on Tuesday night (day 19) and continued to hatch steadily until Wednesday night. Our last hatchling started Wednesday night and was completely out by yesterday morning. Then we had nothing hatch out all day yesterday or today. Is it safe to say I am done with this batch and throw the unhatched eggs away or should I ride it out until day 25? If I don't throw these eggs away now, will they blow up in my bator?

Leave them alone until day 25, unless you smell something nasty/rotten. My last hatch went on until day 25. Don't open the incubator, keep humidity super, super high, like 80%+. Helped me a lot.

That's what I always do, too. Chances are they're not going to hatch, but I always like to make absolutely sure.

Candle and put them up to your ear and tap them, listen for movement/peeping/scratching/pecking

Chicks that are truly stuck in the egg can live quite a long time past the hatch date. I am not sure what they eventually succumb to, starvation? You usually can hear them though, or feel some kind of movement inside the egg. Candle first and make sure there is a good sized air space. A small one will indicate the chick died early on and is safe to toss. Some rot and stink, some do not. Sometimes I will pip the large end of the egg and look in. It should not make a mess as this is the air space and fluids are usually contained behind the membrane. If the chick is still alive, the membrane will be opaque and you should see movement. If dead, it will be transparent.

Usually once my chicks start to hatch, everything is done by 36 hrs. I would probably candle or open them and check it out.

Good luck!
