need advice to keep predators out of new coop

Should I feel guilty that a hawk was tangled in the deer netting a died this morning on top of the coop?

No.

To prevent further occurrence make so bird thinks more than simply deer netting. Some hawks will charge through vegetation and your deer netting likely registers as that or less. Lengths of binder twine can give hawk impression that something more significant is present. I have had hawk damage themselves on fencing and even get dinged up by my stock or dogs. It does not happen often and I like avoid situations where it might be a likely event.

Donate carcass to your local conservation people as they may be able to make use of it for understanding the raptor population better. Species known to you?

I am grateful it was an eagle as you can get in trouble there. But this hawk was outside my coop yesterday morning waiting for a hen to stick their heads out but they can't due to bird netting around the coop and now a hot wire

They do make mistakes, especially as young ones but going after your birds usually stops pretty quick once they figure out they cannot get at them whether hurt or I process or not.
