I’m cooking a turkey tomorrow. The church in my little (don’t blink, you’ll miss it) town, had turkeys to give away. My feathered velociraptors will love it!
Sounds delicious... just don't use fresh onion, onion salt, or onion powder in the food served to a dog or chickens. Some owners don't think onion/garlic is harmful but I don't play Roulette w/ our birds' diet.

Garlic, Shallot, Leek
Onions (Allium spp) are toxic to poultry. If they are ingested in large enough quantities (more than 0.5% of the bird's body weight), onions can damage red blood cells and cause hens body anemia.

All forms of onion are potentially toxic--dehydrated, cooked, powder, raw and includes garlic, leeks, shallots, and other plants of the Allium family

Sometimes I am so disappointed in my chickens. They have been so mean to Tilly that she was too afraid to come in out of the rain today.

The big girls were in the big run.

Niamh was in the porch talking to Tilly. Tilly came over to the porch but would not go in. She is too afraid of Aster and Lady Featherington to be in the same small space with them.

Why do they have to be so darn mean? 😢
It is very heartbreaking to watch. So good that you are there to watch & monitor.

DH & I are so happy to finally have just one breed remaining in our flock. Even though there is a pecking order among Silkies, they are fast & move quickly away from a temporarily moody flockmate. Keeping alike breeds in a flock are the best IMO after watching discouraging mixed breed flock dynamics/temperaments for so many years.

We're just getting too old to get stressed watching the meanness of some birds aggressive toward gentler birds. We don't have the option to dispatch unruly birds the way farm folks do🙁

Actually I was more worried that he wouldn’t learn anything because she wasn’t upset at him at all.
If he tried that with Calypso he would be nursing his wounds.
Don't worry. He'll gain the confidence to try... she'll wallop him... he'll retreat with his tail firmly tucked between his legs, and you'll see him polish his halo and twiddle his wing primaries, whistling innocently every time she looks at him. Then one day everything will click and he'll woo her successfully.

I dunno, she seems to like him even when he jumps her from behind a corner, and he doesn’t seem to lack confidence where she is concerned.
Still terrified of the others of course.
He was always a mama’s boy!

Usually dinner, a movie, and a good bottle of wine makes for good wooing! (Just saying) :old :gig
