Need Advice with Baby Silkie

We purchased 2 baby silkies and 1 frizzle that were about a week old from our local feed store. The frizzle and one of the silkies seem fine but the other silkie seems lost. he has poopie butt and looks confused. he also is half the size of the others yet the same age. wondering what illness this could be and what we can do to help our little guy. any advice is most appreciated!

The poop on the butt is pasty, you need to pull it off or it will get backed up and kill the chick. Hatchery bird often vary greatly in the size of their birds. It may catch up as it gets older or it could stay on the small side.

we just inspected his butt again and i tried taking a picture of it but couldnt get a good shot. his butt looks like it is inside out...like he has a hemmroid.....its very odd looking but the anus sticks out and like he pushed real hard and popped i out. now he is chirping like he is in distress.

Post this under the emergency section. I wonder if you have prolapse. i have never seen it before but from what you are describing, it is not just pasty butt. If you can take a picture.

I just run warm water from the faucet and hold their butt under the running water to wash it off, being careful not to get the whole chick wet. I've found that works better than tearing out the fuzz.. It also stimulates them to poo..

take a look at this site on chick prolapse, it says to use preparation H. Read the link and see if it sounds like what you have. You need to separate your chick so the others don't peck at it. Also sounds like it may not be getting enough water.

I agree, that sounds like a prolapse.
