Need advice with Tension/Migraine Headaches

I too suffer with the extreme Migraines right now and have had them almost continously for the past 4 years. I have been going to a neurologist for 3 of those 4 years and they still haven't figured out what is causing mine. I also have some other issues such as seizures and I take the Depakote 500mg I have to take 5 of these pills per day everyday along with 2 100mg Topomax and still have Migraines on an average 5 out of every 7 days. The pain meds don't work either and the Dr's have pretty much told me other than taking pain shots I would just have to learn how to live with the pain.

You MUST try some alternative treatment. Go find an acupuncturist, a chiropractor, SOMETHING! You can't just endure it...that's awful.

Whoa---That's awful. As an acupuncturist I think you should try acupuncture

! BUT SERIOUSLY, chiro, massage, pt, nucca, (type of very gentle chiro on the neck) you've got to try something else!!

mine run in the family, I've been getting them since before I was 4, the reason I say 4 its the 1st one i remember, I've tried nearly everything doc's med make things worse, at one time I used 2 in the green bottle, 2 sudafed and 3 white bottle with the orange label, every 2 to 4 hours just to get through, (yes my doc knew what I was doing) and I do not recommend it to anyone, I've learned since no chocolate, its not the caffeine, its something in solid chocolate, i still get them just not as often or as long (10 day average), now I take 3 in the orange/white bottle, the hottest shower sprayed on my head, and menthol/camphor on the temples, sides of neck, under nose, then climb in to bed

Two years ago when I started this post I had a hidden time bomb I didn't know much about.. Super High Blood pressure. Didn't know that till a TIA and other complications

Blood pressure medication, a chiropractor and a wife who's learned how to work on my neck has all but eliminated my migraines to once a month at the most.

Acupuncture Acupuncture Acupuncture!!! From a good practitioner of course, from personal experience, also the experiences of friends. I used a Chinese Medicine (also an MD) practitioner. No side effects, better health overall for me anyway. I had migraines since childhood, they completely went away. Good luck!

I'd like to share what I never in a million years thought would work...but it did.

First, let me tell you I get these headaches that make me vomit and are unmerciful at least once a month...and I am the kind of girl who doesn't notice she's walking on a broken ankle and delivers kids w/o drugs.

So: Resolution tells me to boil water, put some fresh, julienned ginger in a cup and pour the boiling water over it, wait 5 minutes, then add milk and honey or not, depending on taste, and drink it.

Huh. I've had tea, thanks. I have tried HARD prescriptions for these beastly headaches, and they don't work. Imitrex, Maxalt, none of those triptans work, because my neurologist says I'm one of the 'lucky ones.' Funny guy.

Guess what? Worked. Worked most of the times since, too. Stunningly.

I've gone through this crud for nearly 30 years and ginger tea is all it takes?

Really?

This could of been wrote by me !!LOL !! I'll have to try the tea.

What has helped me is flax pills. I was taking fish oil due, to arthritis, bad knees and back, and a friend told me, doctor told her mom Flax was better. After a month of flax, I noticed my knees back etc, was better, after 3 months It dawned on me, I hadn't had a migraine. I probly took 2 a day(they recommed more) for 6 months then ran out and just couldn't remember to buy more, after 2 wks, guess what Migraine, first one in all these months, joints are hurting, I got more flax. !!!!

I've had migraines since I was 6 years old & I'm 61 now. I've also had status migraines that have lasted from 3 to 9 weeks. About 10 years ago I had 2 back surgeries which resulted in prolonged use of Vicodin. I needed help getting off it and sought out a doctor to help me. He prescribed something called Suboxone. Primarily, this medication is used to help people get off narcotics. It was very successful & helped me a great deal. During the time I was taking it, I discovered that it worked remarkably well for breaking migraines. It is a controlled narcotic but it is NOT like all the rest of the narcotics. It does not make you "high" or give you a euphoric feeling. One strip (taken sublingually) will last all day long but is recommended to be taken 1/4 or 1/2 at a time, rather than a full strip at once. Although the FDA has not categorized it as a medication for migraines, I have been able to get a Pain doctor prescribe it for me, as I am adamantly opposed to having narcotics prescribed for me. I have found this to be a miracle drug. Recently, I was invited to participate in a survey with the FDA regarding Suboxone. So, I am writing to the FDA in hopes that they will recognize this medication as a great pain reliever. Since it does not induce euphoria or a feeling of being "high," I believe there is less chance of abuse. I hope this is of help to others who suffer with migraines.
