hello,
My neighbor is NPIP and has shipped eggs but never live birds other then day old chicks which she did years ago. She has been in the hospital and is selling off many of her birds. I told her I would help her and she has sold two 8 week old pullets and a cockerel about 6months old that need to be shipped across the country. I know I need to get a shipping box and found them at featherex.com. Is this a suitable shipping box from Ca to Virginia. Does each bird need its own side of a divided box or can the two small pullets travel in one side of a box? Is there a shipping box that has two dividers to ship 3 birds in one box? I noticed they have boxes that hold multiple small birds but only saw chicken boxes with two sides. I hope to ship on the 15th and USPS online shipping calculator says if they ship on the 15th they will guarantee delivery by 3pm on the 17th. It didn't matter what time I dropped them off, all deliveries where only guaranteed by the 17th at 3pm. So if that is the case I will leave them at home to eat relax and be happy and take them for the last possible drop off time. What are the best ways to prepare them for shipping. They are already separated from the others in a pre travel quarantine area. What should I use on the bottom of the box for bedding and is there any way to ship them with food or a source of water. I saw online someone had shipped with fruit and saw another place saying moisture destroys the floor of the box. I really need help from ground zero. I know my way to the drop off location and I know address of sender and receiver along with which birds I need to ship, but that is about the extent of my knowledge on this. I would hate for the birds to die from something I should have done but didn't know to do. Any shipping mentors out there? I wasn't sure where to post this as it doesn't fall into any of the categories.
