Hi. I'm a new chicken owner, and am having a coop built. What direction should the window face? Should the length of the coop run north to south or east to west? Thanks for your help.

I honestly didn't take any of that into consideration before starting mine. Not sure why it would matter. But I am no expert. I have heard big time chicken houses take that stuff into consideration, but im not sure why a small hoddy chicken setup would benefit from that much planning. Unless you needed as much sunlight for colder months or for wind flow to help ventilate thr coop. Id be interested to hear about it from more knowledgeable owners.

Hi, I just finished my Coop. Well, actually my husband finished my coop.
We did take into consideration the harsh winter climate. The nasty winter winds come out of the northwest. We placed the coop directly behind a building to block the wind. We have a window with a storm that will be open in the summer and closed in the fall and winter. The main window faces west and I have vents on the south and east sides of the coop for excellent cross ventilation. In the winter I will plan to staple heavy plastic on the outside of the run so they can still use it. I should mention we live in northern MN where the winters get down to 40+ below zero with or without windchill. My husband wired the coop with an outlet so all I have to do is run an extension cord to the outside of the coop and I am fully electrified for water heaters and heat lamps if necessary.
