Oh, I wasn't planning on bringing him into the show - just meet you at the door and go out to the parking lot to give him to you. We will probably both want to wash our hands well before handling him just in case we touched anything inside that might transmitted..
I agree, you will need to keep him separated from your other birds - quarantine - for about 30 days just in case... I have two sets of recent acquisitions in quarantine right now - I keep the big one in a dog carrier in the laundry room away from the other birds, and the two silkie girls sleep in a small cat carrier and then go out to a segregated area for a daytime run. Bringing in outside birds is always a risk.
That is not cool bringing in something in the eggs. It sounds like she had something bad and very contagious.
I had a problem with cocci in the LF chicks I got from the feed store - but using the medicated chick feed and running a dose of Sulmet cleaned it up. Since this is in the soil - and transmitted by wild birds too - its almost impossible to get away from. That was the only health problem I have ever had with my birds - with the exception of one egg-bound girl. Oh, and I do have mites sometimes, will have to dust him before I bring him over.
