We don't have Trader Joe's here (I KNOW, TRAVESTY!)...are "Nutty Guys" a business?

We're driving up to Chicago this summer for BlogHer...I guess I could bring back a stash of almonds from Trader Joe's then!

Hmmm, almonds. Here, we can stop and gather them for free. Of course, just the ones that are on the very edge of the road, or the one is in the park, etc...I have an almond tree too, but it's just a baby. We live in an area surrounded by acres and acres of almonds, it's the local agriculture here....I wonder if I could find a good deal? They sell them all over the place here, even the culls.

What did you say they cost you? Maybe our local market is less, and with shipping, it could save you to send you some from here, the source...Although they're so into themselves, it may cost MORE!!!

I dont usually pay for nuts. My husbands customers give them to us by the bag fulls during harvest season and I freeze them, and I make Christmas gifts with them to get rid of them from the freezer. Mostly they give us Walnuts though, really he only gets about 5 or 10 pounds of almonds a year if we want.

Let me know what you're paying again??? I'd love to help...Since I live right in the middle of the Almond Industry!! We just had the Almond Blossom bike run, etc...it's all about the nuts here!

BettyR, thanks for all the resources and the muffin recipe!

tftpets--Good gosh, I pay $8-14 per pound for shelled raw almonds here. We are *pecan* country, and it shows!

I made these muffins for breakfast this morning...this is a more typical recipe for me. It's low enough in carbs so that it doesn't raise my blood sugar and it also very moist and flavorful.

Blueberry Almond Muffins
Makes 18 muffins

In a medium size bowl, mix dry ingredients together:
2-1/2 cups of almond flour
1 cup AP flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup Splenda

In another bowl, beat the eggs until well combined. While beating constantly… drizzle oil into eggs and beat until well combined…then beat in honey and sour cream until there are no lumps of sour cream left and batter is smooth. Then stir in milk and vanilla.
3 large eggs
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup of sour cream
1/2 milk
1-1/2 tablespoons vanilla

Pour wet ingredients over the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.

Put batter in paper lined muffin tins…drop a few blue berries on top of each muffin and poke the berries down into the muffins with your finger. Sprinkle a few chopped pecans ontop and bake 375° for 18 minutes or until toothpick inserted in muffin comes out clean.

You may check some of the suppliers for parrot food, I know some of them sell shelled nuts in bulk (I have concidered getting macadamias this way)
