Need answers on what happened to my poor chick!!!!

Its too late for the little thing but when it died its beak was open and its gizzard was bloted. Its tounge was all red!!!!??????
What happened???????

At the beginning of the Raising Baby Chicks there is a sticky that talks at length about what can go wrong with new chicks. Maybe something in there would help.
