need basics of turkey color genetics

I've brought my poults into my highschool classroom for the week. We have just finished our chapter on genetics so I was going to have my students do a short research project on turkey color genetics. I have seen porters turkeys web site where he lists genotypes of various birds, but without a primer on what genes are involved and how they interact I am at a loss.

A brief explanation or links to sites that have an explanation would be appreciated.
