Need brooder ideas for housing 6 meat birds.....

*WARNING!!!* Math nerd alert.

Assuming the birds need 2sqft of space and the area of a circle -->

The trampoline is 12ft in diameter so 6 x 6 = 36 x 3.14 = 113.04 sqft divided by 2 = 56.52 birds. I think you could comfortably raise 60 birds in it assuming you are able to move it every day.

I have 15 in mine and don't move it. I use pine shavings and clean them out for my compost pile. The smell is not bad at all.

Six birds? A small to medium rubbermaid bin would work. You could put 3 each in two milk crates. They are only there for 2-3 wks. Don't make this harder than it is!

No, I know, I am just trying to figure out housing that they could stay in the entire time. I mean I have a box I made that they could be in for the first week or so. I just want to do some kind of structure that I can put them in and leave for whole time we have them, so I don't have to keep trying to move them around

I am sorry my answer was for the other person. I see what you mean, wow. that trampoline could house a lot of birds I think!!!! Might be over kill for 6 birds. But man, I love that I idea. I have actually been looking on craigslist for free items, just to see if anything would work!

Oh, in that case any tractor style will do. You just have to be sure that the space they are in before they feather out is warm enough (95-100 deg the first week and drop 5 deg. per week). You could section off any tractor space with some cardboard, tub, or whatever and the let them loose within the tractor as they get older. The problem with keeping them outside is that it's much tougher to control the temperature.

yeah, really want something pretty permanent, and then like you said, section it off into a smaller section when they are little.

I was talking about adult birds. 60 adult birds in the trampoline is more than doable.

I helped a friend of mine put one together last weekend. We wrapped the perimeter with 1X2 wire then laid a 2X8 across the top. Threw the trampoline mat back over and laced it back on with hay twine (the mat is usually split when a trampoline is put out of service but this one's springs had given out). We had placed a few odds and ends inside for roosting. He has about 10 or so birds that had just come out of the brooder in it at this time. It won't win no beauty contest but it sure gets the job done.
