Palletts - lots of people will give you these, esp if they have 1 broken slat or an odd size. Many lie unattended, and abondoned...they need to be liberated from their dire circumstances...
Hoop House - Not as predator proof, but makes a great run.

With spring comes construction of new houses.... and a new season of Dumpster Diving. After talking to several builders, if it's in the dumpster it's fair game. There is always tons of scrap wafer board. From window cut outs, to odd shapes, to full sheets with a chunk broke out of one edge only. Steer clear of piles outside the dumpster as some builders use these "scrap piles" for their own projects. There is always lots of 2X4 scrap too. Even if none are long enough for support pieces you can always use them for blocking and roosts, framing in windows, etc. Good luck! Hey if you have a local dump or transfer station you can always hang out there on a Saturday and see what shows up

Another place to check is to see if there is a Habitat for Humanity ReSell store in your area. I found a lot of building materials there. All there stuff comes from donations so when you purchase anything it is tax free. I bought my windows and my door from there at a great price. I now have better windows on my coop than what I have on my house.
