So I need some help. I am fairly new at crochet but, Everytime I make a hat it always has this annoying line where i Changed colors or started a new line. this obnoxious little line, all the way down the hat

How do I avoid this?
Is there something wrong with what I'm doing?

How do you change your colors....do you wait to the last two stitches to do it?

I finish the last stitch with the new color and then slip stitch it to finish the row. It happens when i make solids too, so im not sure what the deal is.

On This hat, I tried to figure out a way to make the line not noticable. about half way dow I started skipping the first stitch and them finishing the row in that skipped stitch. It worked alright to cover the line but i think it make the hat get a little weird shaped.

ok this is the way i change colors wait till you have 2 stitches left and then change colors while you crochet a stitch i dont slip stitch the color in i use the stitch that i am working on the project with ....does this make sense to you??? just crochet like you have been doing for the hats when you get to the last 2 stitches change color...dont slip stitch and you shouldnt get the funky line...

cute hats!!!! I like to tie my yarn in right where it needs to change ~ I do that by snipping off the old color, leaving a 2" tail, and then matching the new color to that tail ( line em up) & tying a knot, the same way you would if you ran out of yarn in the middle of a project, and needed to add more on to finish. Then I either weave the tails in as I crochet, or after I am done, depending on the stitch at the join. Queen Scoots is the correct way, mine is the lazy way. ;-D
