So I am going to be treating my chickens for possible canker, or URI. I am not sure which exactly because they won't let me open their mouths, but they are making popping noises and coughing and I did see yellow crud but I thought it was food so I didn't think anything of it. They have clear mucus coming from their nose and watery eyes too. This is only my two silkies, but my new sussex pullet has been with them and has very bad diarhea so I am going to treat her too. I ordered some metronidazole but I need to know the dosing for them. They are 250mg tablets, and my chickens are only between 1-2 lbs. I need to weigh them but I know my littlest one can't be over a lb in weight. The metro won't be in until this weekend to early next week unfortunately so I have been trying to give them immune boosting foods such as garlic, fish, and yogurt. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am going to hold off giving my sussex anything else besides food and water because of her diarhea but the silkies are the worst off anyway. I did seperate the sussex from them too. They are all inside because I also just treated them for lice!

I have no luck with these chickens.

i've tried that but they shake their heads and pull. is it okay to give 250mg to a tiny chicken?
You can give a half tablet if you wish, increase to full strength if it's ineffective. Have someone hold the chicken and have the person also hold the comb firmly in place while you pull the wattles down firmly and throw the pill in the mouth.

The chickens are still doing okay, but watching them it seems to be more of an URI than it would be cankers, will Metro still work for that?
